IRCC accepts PTE Core for Express Entry. Check the current CEC, FSW and FSTP four-skill minimum scores, CLB conversion, validity and result-sharing rules.
Is PTE Core accepted for Express Entry and Canada PR
Yes. IRCC currently lists PTE Core as an approved English test for Express Entry and multiple economic immigration programs. Applicants must take the PTE Core version and satisfy the complete requirements of the specific program.
Minimum PTE Core score for the Canadian Experience Class
CEC applicants with NOC TEER 0 or 1 work need CLB 7 in all four skills: currently Speaking 68, Listening 60, Reading 60 and Writing 69 at the lower boundary. TEER 2 or 3 requires CLB 5: Speaking 51, Listening 39, Reading 42 and Writing 51.
Minimum PTE Core score for the Federal Skilled Worker Program
The first official language minimum is CLB 7 in all four skills. The current PTE Core lower boundaries are Speaking 68, Listening 60, Reading 60 and Writing 69. Language is only one part of FSW eligibility and selection.
Minimum PTE Core score for the Federal Skilled Trades Program
FSTP requires CLB 5 for speaking and listening and CLB 4 for reading and writing. The current corresponding minimum PTE Core results are Speaking 51, Listening 39, Reading 33 and Writing 41.
PTE Core score for CLB 9 and CRS planning
IRCC currently maps CLB 9 to Speaking 84–88, Listening 82–88, Reading 78–87 and Writing 88–89. Higher CLB can add CRS points, but a score target should be calculated from the whole profile rather than treated as an invitation guarantee.
PTE Core overall score is not the immigration threshold
IRCC converts speaking, listening, reading and writing separately. A high overall PTE Core score cannot replace a skill that is below the program minimum.
PTE Core results must remain valid through application submission
Express Entry language results must be less than two years old when the profile is completed and when the permanent-residence application is submitted. Plan for invitation timing and a possible retake.
How IRCC verifies a PTE Core result
Enter the official test results and requested verification details into the application. Pearson states that IRCC does not accept a paper or PDF PTE Core Score Report and uses the unique code to verify the result electronically.
PTE Core and PTE Academic are different tests
Express Entry lists the PTE Core option. PTE Academic is a different Pearson test used mainly for study purposes and should not be substituted for PTE Core in an Express Entry application.
